Type Sport Halls for Berlin

In the urban area of Berlin, a total of nine triple sports halls are being built in modular, ecological construction and set to be completed by the end of this year. The halls are 22 × 45 m in size and have a clear room height of 7 m. All are based on the same design concept with a standardised supporting structure made of glulam.
The design comes from the Stuttgart-based architectural partnership Scholl Balbach Walker, while the supporting structure was planned by Helber + Ruff from Ludwigsburg. The client is the Berlin Senate Department for Education, Youth and Family, and the project manager is DGI Bauwerk. Rubner has been entrusted with all the timber construction work and the realisation of the building envelopes.
Construction began in February 2020, and the first hall with a glulam supporting structure with a span of almost 26 m at the Lily-Braun-Gymnasium in Berlin- Spandau was inaugurated in May 2021. A total of 1060 m³ of glulam, 11,400 m² of roof elements, 8,500 m² of wall elements and 5,500 m² of wood-glass facades will be installed for the project. Seven of the halls have 60, and the other two 199 spectator seats, with the span of the glulam structure here 33.60 m. hk
