Helen & Hard
Helen & Hard was founded in 1996 in Stavanger by the Norwegian architect Siv Helene Stangeland and Austrian architect Reinhard Kropf. Today, 26 employees from 10 nations work in the practice’s offices in Stavanger and Oslo. Helen & Hard have become known in recent years for their sustainable timber buildings, many of which were created in collaboration with the Swiss engineer Hermann Blumer. In 2010, Helen & Hard designed the Norwegian Pavilion for the Expo in Shanghai. Their library in Grimstad in southern Norway was completed in 2017. The timber structure incorporates the pre-existing reinforced concrete frame of a former police station.
