Gothic gastronomy: A wine cellar by Jamie Beckwith.
For some, wine is almost a God. If you subscribe to such notions then you might appreciate this gaudy Gothic temple dedicated to wine's worship.
Designed by Jamie Beckwith, it uses acrylic tubes and LEDs to modulate the light colour, making mood swings possible without even touching the alcohol!
The glass floor to the reception room above is interesting. On the one hand it looks as though some ancient and priceless ruins, albeit with a sci-fi feel, are preserved below. But another, and I think this comes from the contrast in styles between the upper and lower spaces, evokes the idea of a sadomasochistic torture chamber where the pleasures, for those that dare enter, can be sweet or sour.
