Ufo in the Woods: Holiday Home by Medusa Group in the Bieszczady Mountains

The architects at the Polish Medusa Group studio have designed a house for hunting lovers in the Bieszczady mountains’ hilly landscape close to the border with Ukraine. The sparsely populated mountain range fascinates many visitors, and its abundance of game attracts both nature lovers and hunters. The holiday home is immersed in the greenery. No fence stands between the road and the building, clad in weather-resistant structural steel and offering approx. 350 square metres of net floor area. The green roof also blends the volume even more into its wild surroundings.
The front part of the house offers panoramic views of the woods, while the rear is oriented to the mountain backdrop. Seen from a distance, the building makes the impression of a luxurious bunker but closer up takes on the character of a hideaway for relaxing in the mountains. The goal of the architects was to build a house that despite its striking exterior does not intrude on the mountain ambience but merges in as far as possible with the woods. As time passes, the earthy and warm hues of the Corten steel façade will gain in intensity, developing the characteristic patina in the process.
Exposed concrete, metal and wood determine the atmosphere inside the house, where designer furniture and luminaires provide urban flair. The black fitted kitchen and dining area of the living room stand in stark contrast to the pale wood of the walls and ceilings. All bedrooms open onto the terrace through panoramic doors; the garage and wellness and fitness rooms are contained in the basement.
