The Office for Metropolitan Architecture OMA unveiled their plans for the new Prada Art Foundation. A tower by Rem Koolhaas, which will be integrated in an early 20th century industrial site south of Milan is supposed to become a new landmark for the region.

It is not the first time that OMA is cooperating with Miuccia Prada and Patrizio Bertelli, the founders of the Prada Foundation, as the Office already delivered the design for the Prada-Epicenter. The Prada Foundation’s new art center will house the Foundation’s different events, dedicated to disciplines that range from cinema to design, architecture and philosophy, fashion and performance. It will also include a permanent exhibition space showing the result of more than 15 years of the Foundation’s activities.

AMO, the think-tank of the Office for Metropolitan Architeture, adds an exhibition building, an auditorium and a museum tower to the existing structure. The project’s approach is to unite contemporary architecture with the regeneration of the historic area which dates back to 1910, representing the evolution of the industrial development of Milan.

The total exhibition space is 17,500 square metres, of which 10,000 square metres belong to the new building.
