In collaboration with Powered by E.ON Drive & Clever, COBE has unveiled an innovative ultra-fast charging station for electric vehicles in Fredericia, Denmark. The installation promises to completely recharge not only vehicles in a mere 15 minutes but also the drivers' mental batteries with its leafy surroundings.
The design by COBE – winner of the Danish Building Award 2018 in the infrastructure category – concerns a change in thinking regarding the traditional typology of service stations. Incorporating recycled materials, it is made up of modular charging points grouped together to imitate a grove of trees in which the canopy consists of a perforated roof structure clad in solar panels. Plantings initiated by the Danish Society for Nature Conservation round off the architectural interpretation of a wood.
Over the long term, the ultra-fast charging stations are to make investment in an electric vehicle a more attractive proposition and in this way foster the transition from fossil fuels to CO2-neutral means of transport. As the first charging station of its kind, COBE's singular project is part of a planned network of 48 ultra-fast electric vehicle charging stations along Scandinavian highways.
