After studying under the Kazuhiro Kojima, Japanese architect Takahiro Endo worked at the firm of Riken Yamamoto, who received the Pritzker Prize in 2024. It was there that Endo learned the importance of creating architecture that serves not only the client but society at large. Endo gained international attention in 2019 with his design of a private home in Kitakamakura. His holiday home in Karuizawa, created for a 14-member extended family, similarly features untreated wood and white cubic spaces. Unlike his earlier design, where the rooms are arranged in a spiral, this project employs a linear arrangement.
In March, our readers were particularly enthusiastic about the following three contributions: a Residence and Office near Inverness, a School in the Netherlands and the Army Museum in Warsaw.
A 30 m long building block with a floor that follows the gently sloping topography – this is the principle Takahiro Endo used to design a holiday home for four families in Karuizawa, central Japan.
