Spitalfield Digital Canvas
Jestico & Whiles with Julian Harrap complete a light installation for the Spitalfields Market in central London as part of its renovation.
Developer Ballymore provided sponsorship for a temporary retail unit within the market that housed the first Museum of Kinetic Art. The Museum is no longer on site, however it was decided that a portion of its exhibit will not be removed from the location, particularly, the Spitalfield Digital Canvas. The digital canvas is composed of interconnected lighting and display components that can be programmed and controlled centrally and interactively. The installation was designed cooperatively by Julian Harrap and Jestico + Whiles, who also worked on the refurbishment of the market hall. The installation of canvases are intended to be used in concert, and will be programmed over time by a variety of digital artists, allowing new installations to change and evolve constantly.
