Smart city Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye by Zaha Hadid Architects
Render: Flying Architecture
To accommodate the steadily growing population of Moscow, a new neighbourhood by the name of Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye is coming about in the west of Russia's capital. Designed by Zaha Hadid Architects working in collaboration with TPO Pride Architects, the project also envisages complete renewal of the infrastructure.
Schools, medical facilities, cultural institutions, office buildings, transport routes and homes for 66,500 residents determine the new visual identity of Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye, with the site amounting to 460 hectares altogether. A 30-hectare lake connects the integrated parklands with the Moskva River. The architects' ambitious goal is to establish a global benchmark for the development of 'smart cities'. 3D models by the EDF Group simulate highly differing urban scenarios for the optimisation of the energy balance in the new neighbourhood, whereby local and sustainable energy resources are primarily find use.
The design of Rublyovo-Arkhangelskoye is to particularly foster interaction within the local community on the basis of environmental awareness and inclusivity, states Christos Passas, project director at Zaha Hadid Architects.
