Sigrún Sumarliðadóttir
London-based Icelandic architect Sigrún Sumarliðadóttir studied architecture at Delft University of Technology and fine arts at IUAV Venice. In 2017, she founded the architecture firm Studio Bua in London with her long-time collaborator, Mark Smyth. The Icelandic term “bua” means “to live”, reflecting the team’s deep appreciation for their immediate surroundings. This philosophy is expressed through a special focus on craftsmanship and a cooperative design approach. In recent years, Sumarliðadóttir has led several award-winning renovation and urban development projects in Iceland and the UK. The architects of Studio Bua are known for exploring innovative ways to creatively reuse existing structures in both urban and rural environments.
