Rotating façade of books: Storefront Library by Abruzzo Bodziak Architects

In a design for the “Architecture Books Yet to Be Written” exhibition staged by the Storefront for Art and Architecture, Abruzzo Bozick Architects have devised an installation centring on the contributions of the written word to architecture. Conceptual transformation of the rotating gallery façades into bookshelves extending into the public space of the sidewalk has brought about a dialogic exhibition platform for visitors.

The shelves produced out of painted medium-density fibreboard contain a commented selection of architecture publications from the last 35 years. Over the course of the exhibition, additional contributions from publishing houses, non-profit organisations and artist collectives are to successively fill the shelves. “Non-textual“ elements in the form of mirrored acrylic bookends act as props for opened books showing a year date for chronological demarcation.

Abruzzo Bodziak Architects additionally participated in the 24x24x24 programme concerned with the design of public seating places. Their “Step/Stool“ is integrated in the exhibition design and serves as a bench, stool or step depending on positioning.
