Political Shaping: Social Design at the Museum of Art and Design Hamburg

How can architecture and design change society? Within the framework of the Social Design exhibition, the Museum of Art and Design Hamburg (MKG) demonstrates how the shaping  languages of architecture and design can act as methods for political and social modelling.

From the areas of urban space and landscape, living, education, work, production, migration, networks and the environment, curator Angeli Sachs is showing 25 international and regional example cases  including the Lycée Schorge by Kéré Architecture, the flag of the Refugee Olympic Team by Yara Said, the Safir water filter and the Solar Kiosk by GRAFT. Equal participation on the part of individuals, civil society, government and business has made it possible to present this broad diversity of new designs for work and living environments.

However, the curatorial concept behind Social Design is not limited to the exhibition spaces. In cooperation with the ConstructLab collective, the MKG has initiated the ARGE neighbourhood project, which focuses on the design potential of selected social design projects from the immediate surroundings.
