Planning Methods for Renovation and Refurbishment
The planning processes involved in a renovation project are distinctly different from those required for a new construction project. It is possible, for example, that the entire planning process for a new construction remains entirely abstract until commencement of construction. Discussions between clients and consultants are structured upon intermediate goals, while external interaction is confined to legal restrictions. The frame of reference in a renovation project is, contrastingly, an existing building, and thus a totally different concept. The planning process departs from the abstract realm at the very outset and is immediately affected by existing conditions.
