We present three sculptural viewing platforms that have convinced our editors in every respect: in an interplay with the landscape, an observation tower in the Netherlands, a staircase leading to nowhere in Belgium, and an observatory in Denmark offer new perspectives on the surrounding nature.

Nothing to Hide: Haus Rosa in Dornbirn by Sebastian Brandner
With its narrow shape and wooden construction, Sebastian Brandner’s Haus Rosa, which stands on the outskirts of Dornbirn, makes a strong statement. The new building encounters its neighbours with no hedge or fence; inside, the extensively open floor plans are a special surprise.

Living in Elysium: J2 Residence on Lake Starnberg
Since the 19th century, people have been erecting summer residences and country homes on Lake Starnberg. These do not conform to any regional building style, but give testimony to the individuality of their inhabitants and creators. Even now, house dreams of diverse origins manifest the longing for the best of all lives in the J2 residence, which stands on a large lot among Historicist mansions and rhododendrons.
