OMA – Office for Metropolitan Architecture
OMA is an international office for architecture and urban development. The research and design studio OMA applies architectural thinking in areas beyond architecture. Rem Koolhaas founded OMA in 1975 along with Madelon Vriesendorp, as well as Elia and Zoe Zenghelis. Koolhaas is also a professor at Harvard University and at the Central Academy of Fine Arts in Beijing. OMA is currently under the directorship of eight partners; the company has offices in Rotterdam, New York, Hong Kong, Doha and Australia. Buildings designed by OMA that are currently under construction include the renovation of Kaufhaus des Westens (KaDeWe) in Berlin, The Factory in Manchester and Hangzhou Prism. Recently completed projects are the Taipei Performing Arts Centre (2022), the Axel Springer Campus in Berlin (2020) and Norra Tornen in Stockholm (2020). Examples of earlier buildings are the Fondazione Prada in Milan (2018), the CCTV headquarters in Beijing (2012) and the Dutch embassy in Berlin (2003).
Comprehensive documentations on OMA’s buildings appear in the monograph "OMA. Architecture and Construction Details", published by Edition Detail (Munich 2019).
