Munich, the Olympic city
The exhibition at the Architekturmuseum der TU documents the planning of the Olympic Games with many sketches, plans, photos, models and accounts from the time. The show is curated by Irene Meissner, who among other things is an expert in the tent-roof construction designed by Frei Otto. The exhibition will take place at the Pinakothek der Moderne until 8 January.

The 1972 Olympics in pictures
The Bavarian State Library on Ludwigstrasse is showing photographs from their collection. The large annual exhibition in the Prachttreppenhaus and the Fürstensaal of the Ludwigstrasse library comprises 140 photos from the period from 1965 until 1972 and includes photos by Karten de Riese and Max Prugger.
The Olympic Park
What would the tent roof of the Olympic complex be without the park that surrounds the architecture by Günter Behnisch and Frei Otto? A new work by Ines Jenewein, a photographer and editor, shows the entire ensemble on the Olympic grounds in historical and current photos. The compendium at the Wasmuth publishing house will motivate visitors to explore the history of the Olympic Park and rediscover it. Otl Aicher 100
In the plans prepared by Ulm designer and intellectual Otl Aicher, the Munich Olympics took on a comprehensive communication concept. From Waldi, the mascot, to the posters for the big events, the hostesses‘ uniform, and the guidance system featuring pictograms that depicted every discipline in sports. The memory game „Otl Aicher, Munich 1972“ memorializes Aicher’s 100th birthday and celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Munich Olympics with Aicher’s timeless pictograms. Design for Olympia
The exhibition at Munich’s Neue Sammlung design museum examines the diverse interrelationships between design and the Olympic Games. Selected objects and graphics demonstrate the values and aims pursued in the design of the 1972 games.
