New design by Matteo Thun + Partners for InterCityHotel

Calling up instant associations with train stations among many rail travellers in Germany, the "IntercityHotel" brand is doubtlessly mainly known for rather nondescript design. This is now to change: for the IntercityHotel 2.0 project, Matteo Thun has developed a design concept which has already been realised in two pilot cases in Duisburg and Brunswick. Italian effortlessness, natural and robust materials and a reserved colour palette promise "aesthetic and technical longevity" – a factor that played a decisive role in persuading the investor to have the design concept implemented.  Contemporary hotel furnishings have a short life cycle, with the respective interiors regarded as outdated after a mere twelve years.  Market pressure is high, which pushes room prices downwards at a rapid pace.

The main strength of the new InterCity design lies in its "normalcy", as public rooms fitted out in solid oak furniture, genuine leather and brass show. The living room atmosphere this recalls – almost like being at home – is to create a feeling of familiarity, something all the more appreciated when you are far away from your own place.
