“I am myself a dinosaur, I represent the old idea of architects, building monumental buildings in an old-fashioned way, holding on to quality.”, Chipperfield explains in an interview. The third extended edition monograph “David Chipperfield Architects” by Edition Detail portrays further more recent Chipperfield-projects.

The first projects were smaller commercial buildings such as the Joseph Menswear Boutique in London. Later came the Kaufhaus Tyrol department store in Innsbruck, the residential complex in a water garden in Hangzhou and the company headquarters of Amorepacific in Seoul. The growing number and scope of the commissions led to the much-needed expansion of Chipperfield’s own office, located in an old Berlin piano factory, by three new buildings. The book portrays architectural jewels and their constructive details, such as the Museum of Modern of Literature (Literaturmuseum der Moderne) in Marbach am Neckar as well as the Neues Museum and the James-Simon-Galerie, both of which are on Berlin’s Museum Island (both projects with new pictures in this edition).
