Maison Heler Metz by Philippe Starck

Recently, the mayor of Metz and designer and architect Philippe Starck presented this project for the hotel Maison Heler Metz at the international real-estate fair. The 14-storey building is being marketed by the Hilton Group as part of their Curio Collection: every hotel in the Curio brand differs from all the others in its unique design.

The Maison Heler Metz is the first plan for a luxury hotel in Metz. Investors are counting on the idea that the unusual building will attract wealthy guests. What’s more, Metz now lays great value on cultural tourism. Since the opening of Shigeru Ban’s spectacular Centre Pompidou Metz museum in 2010, the city in northeastern France is hoping for synergetic effects in both the economic and cultural spheres.

The otherwise ordinary hotel building in the newly developed Quartier de l’Amphithéâtre is crowned by a traditional Alsatian house like one “from the 18th century.” There is also a rooftop terrace with a garden and view overlooking the city. With this project, Philippe Starck has remained true to himself: both his design objects and his architectural plans are perfect products that are excellent for consumption and entertainment.
