Low-Energy Office Tower - Innovative Double-skin Facade with Decentralized Facade Ventilation
The Roche Diagnostics Ltd. office tower in the Swiss town of Rotkreuz combines different new technologies with a clear architectural expression. Distinguishing characteristics of the simple exterior are the efficient supporting framework and an innovative facade concept. In contrast to the abundance of double facades favoured in the past, the new construction consists of a closed cavity facade made from self-contained elements. Their use here is interesting given the desire to achieve effective insulation, maximum transparency, high levels of sound protection, low-maintenance sun protection and also short installation times. The building, which was constructed according to the MINERGIE standards, not only boasts the first large-scale use of these floor-to-ceiling box windows, it also has two other firsts: the combination of structural element activation and room acoustics with invisible, inlaid absorber sections; and the foam extinguishing system, which is used for the first time in a structural design in Switzerland.
