Kunsthaus Graz

In the historic city centre of Graz on the right bank of the River Mur, the architects Peter Cook and Colin Fournier have set a biomorphic structure, a floating bubble, in which visitors are conveyed to the various levels on travelators. The building has polarized opinions. For many lay people, the formal language is too futuristic; for the professional observer, the implementation of Archigram ideas that are now decades old does not go far enough. One innovative feature, however, is the design of the 1,500 differently shaped plastic sheets that form the rear-lighted outer skin. This also serves as a media surface for various projections.
