Jewelry Shop in Berlin by Crosby Studios

With their design concept for the Berlin flagship store for jewelry label Avgvst Jewelry, Crosby Studios were inspired by a collection modelled on kitchen utensils.  

This showroom, designed as a rather unconventional industrial kitchen, offers an eclectic selection. On the one hand, it was conceived as a display space for the jewelry collection known as The Cutlery, whose necklaces and earrings consist of tiny spoons, forks and knives. On the other, it also encompasses a tattoo parlour and a garden that will be used for yoga classes, meditation sessions and pop-up dinners.

Industrial design

The overall industrial mood of the display space is created primarily by the stainless-steel look of the kitchen fittings. These serve as counter space, storage and display cases for the jewelry. Most of the fittings are not used for their intended purposes, but have been adapted to the spatial conditions. For instance, grey office blinds cover the brick walls, whose red tone shows through the slats. The small mirrors on the walls are reminiscent of computer screens.

Striking colour accents

Further examples are the seats in the showroom, which have the look of folding camping chairs and tables. However, the monochrome silvery shade of the kitchen fittings and screed floor are frequently interrupted by striking pops of yellow, such as the jewelry boxes and the tools in the tattoo parlour. The yellow represents not only a playful contrast, but also the corporate identity of Avgvst Jewelry.

The showroom is a nearly square room that faces the street and opens to the outdoors via large glazed surfaces. The facade, which has been done in a uniform shade of grey, frames the eclectic interior, arousing curiosity about the actual use of the space behind it.

Yellow and silver

The long tattoo parlour is behind the showroom and is accessed via a space in the curtains. Large mirrors on the transverse and longitudinal walls surround the furniture, most of which is yellow, and multiply it in the room. The centrepiece is an armchair covered in silver fabric, which once again contributes to the alienation concept of the flagship store.
