Hybrid Sandwich Element

Together with Finnish construction and design partners, Metsä Wood has developed a new hybrid sandwich wall element made of concrete and Kerto LVL laminated veneer lumber. It is intended, for example, to replace sandwich elements made of concrete, which are often used in multi-story residential buildings, especially in Nordic countries. Due to their lighter weight, Metsä Wood says the elements can be manufactured comparatively faster at the factory and transported to the construction site with fewer emissions. In addition, they are easier to lift. The pilot project for the hybrid sandwich wall panels is Metsä Fibre’s new sawmill in Rauma, Finland, where they were installed in June 2021.
