Housing in Innsbruck

Built in a prefabricated system developed by the architects, the house took only 11 months to erect. The walls in recycled concrete were poured in permanent formwork elements consisting of composite wood sheets complete with battens, insulation, casements, oak shiplap boarding and preassembled mechanical services. The projecting bay windows on the street face – a reinterpretation of the city’s traditional oriel windows – are glazed only at the sides and on top. The front faces are closed and clad like the façade. This system allows views out, but prevents views into the dwellings. The single-glazed conservatories on the garden face can be opened by sliding the windows aside. In this way, a spatial layering of the outer skin is achieved.
