Gordian Kley

Since founding Merz Kley Partner in 1999, Gordian Kley and Konrad Merz, together with four other partners, have continued to deepen their specialization in timber construction. Two very different timber roofs demonstrate their expertise: At the base station for the Nebelhorn gondola lift in Oberstdorf by HK Architekten, it was important to minimize the wooden arches for a visibly pure structure. For the 19 m cantilevered canopy at the TUM campus by Dietrich Untertrifaller, the task of the structural engineers was to realize a level soffit without visible beams, despite high point loads on the columns. They work intensively with architects early in the process, often already starting during the competition phase of a project. Merz Kley Partner’s openness to experimentation can be seen in their structural design for the three “Building Simply” research buildings by Florian Nagler in Bad Aibling.
