Google Bay View by BIG and Heatherwick Studio

The first Google campus – designed by BIG Bjarke Ingels Group and Heatherwick Studios in collaboration with Google’s design and engineering team – has opened in Silicon Valley. With this project, the tech giant intends to redefine the workplace of the future: people and sustainability will take centre stage. The campus comprises three buildings situated on a 42-hectare area not far from the NASA Ames Research Center. The two large buildings encompass 20 hectares of space arranged for flexible cooperative work. In addition, the campus features an event venue for 1000 people and short-term accommodations for 240 employees.
A spectacular roofscape with around 50 000 solar panels will generate nearly seven megawatts of energy. The opaque roof structures offer sound protection, while the open areas allow daylight into the interior working spaces without extensive glare.
