With its elaborate construction of filigree aluminium ribs, the roof conjures images of the skeleton of a fish, while at the same time recalling the cloth sails spanned over the narrow lanes of the neighbouring souk to provide shade.
That, of course, is also the function of the market roof, which enlivens the urban space beneath with an unusual interplay of light and shade on the walls and ground of the simple building volume, over which it extends like a multiply curved parasol.
The film shows how the aluminium louvres — sweeping in two directions and supported by slender steel columns — were laid out on the site.
