With their showroom for the property developer Fantasia, the Ippolito Fleitz Group has consistently used polygonal shapes to appeal to a young, dynamic target group. On the northeast outskirts of Hangzhou, the client has erected what is known as a Smart Town featuring office spaces and serviced living opportunities for up-and-coming IT enterprises.

Ippolito Fleitz have translated the client’s wish – a progressive image of the project – into a polygonally structured, multi-perspective space that is full of diagonals, yet has no right angles.

The interior design consistently follows this formal path down to the smallest detail, from the floor plan, ceiling pattern, reception counter and upholstered easy chairs to the vase for flowers.

The architects describe their concept: “The multifaceted space surprises people again and again with refractions and details. It expresses the energy and vitality with which we meet the increasing complexity of the world”. What’s more, “The interplay between narrow and wide is part of a customer journey where new, unexpected angles of view are created over and over.”

The leather and felt upholstery on the chairs contrasts with the otherwise rather cool surfaces in the space, particularly the aluminum-clad walls. At the centre of the two-storey sales centre stands a large 3D model of the Smart Town, which can be viewed from the upper gallery level as well as from an aerial perspective.

“For those interested in this project this is no ordinary viewing, for it is not just about the office spaces, but also the special context that will be created here: a future-driving melting pot with an urban flair, where the concept of community is lived”, the architects state in their project description.
