dunkelschwarz
Based in Salzburg, dunkelschwarz was founded by Erhard Steiner (*1983), Hannes Sampl (*1985), and Michael Höcketstaller (*1984). Working at different scales and in various thematic areas, the projects of this young architectural firm reveal their raw and consistent formal language. They have planned and built public buildings including educational, religious, and cultural buildings, as well as individual homes, apartment buildings, and commercial structures, and have also conducted renovations. The trio’s work has been honoured with various architecture awards, including two “Best Architects” awards for their kindergarten in Unterach am Attersee and Kendlbruck mountain chapel in Salzburg’s Lungau region. dunkelschwarz is currently working on a valley station in St. Wolfgang for the Schafbergbahn cog railway, along with various other projects, some of which are the result of competitions they have won.
