On the edge of the cliff of Lysefjord, on the west coast of Norway, four lodges float above ground and blend harmoniously into the landscape. Visitors reach the two-storey cabins directly via bridges of Corten steel. Large glass surfaces open up an unobstructed clear view over the rocky landscape of the fjord. The Fuchsegg Eco Lodge is located in the mountain landscape of the Bregenz Forest, around 1000 m above sea level. A complex of six buildings constructed in Vorarlberg´s wood-building tradition receives long-term guest as well as day visitors. Natural resources inside and outside create a special hotel atmosphere. The exterior facades of the wood-hybrid structures are clad with regional fir. An organic heating system fueled with regional waste wood, heat pumps and photovoltaic panels are included in the sustainable holiday concept. Continue reading

Located near Merano, the new Stettiner Hütte replaces its predecessor, which was irreparably damaged by an avalanche. The hostel at a site 2875 m above sea level offers both comfort and safety. The polygonal concrete building is designed in a way that sets all walls at an acute angle to the slope of the mountain – and therefore to the direction of avalanche flow. Robust hinged sheet metal shutters protect from external influences. Inside, homely wood interior create a contemporary cosiness. Continue reading
