At the end of the year, we present three buildings in existing stock that have convinced our editorial team in every respect.
Refurbishment of the San Juan de Ruesta Hermitage is the latest project by Sebastián Arquitectos. The architects consolidated the building with care, in the process making it once again a resting place for people on the pilgrimage.

A venerable frame for a painstaking renovation: even after the three-year renovation project by David Chipperfield Architects Milan, the Procuratie Vecchie will preserve the face of the Piazza San Marco.

In New Haven, Connecticut, the architects from Becker + Becker have transformed the former administrative headquarters of Armstrong Rubber into the USA’s first passive-energy hotel. The building was originally designed by Marcel Breuer and Robert Gatje and completed in 1969; it was erected beside Interstate 95, which represented another new feature on the city’s waterfront.
