This year the DETAIL Prize is being awarded for the seventh time. The international architecture prize is awarded every two years by DETAIL in cooperation with BAU 2017 as the premium partner, Josef Gartner GmbH as the main sponsor, conceptual partners from the political arena, and industry sponsors. This year for the first time, construction software manufacturer Orca is also on board as a sponsor.

The DETAIL Prize 2016 highlights opportunities, challenges and potentials for the entire construction industry and in particular for architecture. The aim of the award is to strengthen architecture in public debate, strengthen the role of architects in public, and strengthen networking among architects, industrialists, developers and politicians.

The judges were looking for realizations in which the overall design concept and the detailing were brought together in a coherent way. The DETAIL Prize is awarded to future-oriented, innovative and pioneering projects from different disciplines that have outstanding architectural and technical qualities. The jury decided to distribute the prize money as follows: The main DETAIL Prize comes with prize money of EUR 3,000, and the DETAIL inside and DETAIL structure Prizes with prize money of EUR 1,000 respectively.

On 19 July 2016, the jury members Peter Ippolito (Ippolito Fleitz Group), Gilles Retsin (Gilles Retsin Architecture), Mike Schlaich (schlaich bergermann partner), Enrique Sobejano (Nieto Sobejano Arquitectos) and Daniel Lischer (alp architektur lischer partner ag) chose this year's prize-winners from 337 submissions from 42 countries.

The winners of the DETAIL Prize 2016 are Sean Godsell Architects with their project MPavilion in Melbourne, Australia. Second place goes to Brandlhuber+ Emde, Burlon / Riegler Riewe Architekten for their project St. Agnes in Berlin. In third place are Morger Partner Architekten for their project Hilti Art Foundation / Huber Uhren Schmuck in Vaduz, Liechtenstein. The DETAIL structure prize, one of two first-time special prizes, is awarded to Knight Architects for their project Merchant Square Footbridge in London, UK. The DETAIL inside prize, the second first-time special prize, goes to Florian Busch Architects for their building K8 in Kyoto, Japan.

Now it's your turn: We want to award the DETAIL Readers' Prize 2016 to the project that most impresses our readers and online users. Between 1 September and 14 October 2016 you can VOTE ONLINE for your favourite out of the following 13 projects nominated by the jury. The winner of the DETAIL Readers' Prize 2016 will be determined by means of a simple majority and announced after reader-voting has been completed.

All the prize winners will publicly present their projects and exhibit selected works from their offices at the DETAIL Symposium on Friday, 11 November 2016 in the Magazin der Heeresbäckerei event-venue in Berlin. In addition to the award-winning projects, the winners will also present other projects realised by their offices, the aim being to illustrate the interaction between design and construction using selected detail solutions. Admission is free. The number of participants is limited, and registration is required. INFORMATION AND REGISTRATION HERE.

Between 16 January and 21 January 2017, the prize-winning projects will be presented at an exhibition during BAU 2017 in Munich.
