Daylight System for the Elephant House by JET Group
Photo: Manufacturer
The 664-m2-large roof surface was as much a challenge as the elliptical shape of the dome. After structural investigations and preliminary planning, it was decided to opt for a steel structure. This is largely immune to the ammonia vapours and is intended to ensure a longer service life. In order to bring as much daylight and fresh air as possible into the hall, BA glazing systems and 16 Ventria 3 system flaps from the JET Group were used. To form the round glass dome, trapezoidal elements tapering upwards were necessary. The encircling thermal separation and the optimised chamber and bridge design of the frame and sash profiles also ensure thermal insulation.
