Cultural Residence on Hormuz by ZAV Architects

As part of the Presence in Hormuz urban development project, ZAV Architects were commissioned to plan a multifunctional hotel complex. The resulting design, known as the Majara Residence, will link the lives of inhabitants with those of visitors not only culturally, but economically as well. The overall aim is that the architecture will act as a mediator in reconciling the interests of various groups. Travellers can now spend the night beneath around 200 domes painted blue, green, red or yellow: a clear reference to the colourful landscape. The domes have an interesting construction based on the Superadobe method developed by Nader Khalili. Tube-like sandbags are filled with earth and wound upwards into domes.

ZAV Architects is a Tehran-based architecture studio that has been in operation since 2007. Its planners are convinced that interaction can make architecture a proactive, social and economic participant in people’s lives. With their projects, they aspire to connect the benefits for those directly involved with those of society as a whole.
