Celestial architecture: New furniture collection by Fornasetti

The new collection of furniture conceived by Barnaba Fornasetti for the 2018 Fuorisalone in Milan takes its inspiration from "celestial architecture". The furniture items in the "Architettura Celeste" collection are a reworking of the historical motifs created by Piero Fornasetti, the father of the designer.
On the one hand the "celestial architectures" refer to buildings that embody and symbolise the astronomical knowledge of their time. ON the other, Barnaba Fornasetti has used the colour sky-blue (which translates to "celeste" in Italian) as a metaphor for traditional illustrations of heavenly scenes.
The collection comprises a trumeau (in a limited edition of 20 pieces), a chair, round panels, a table and a mirror. All the objects are handcrafted and marketed as collectors' items.
Piero Fornasetti founded his design studio in the 1950s and worked not only as a designer but also as a painter and sculptor. His best-known work includes "Tema e Variazioni", a series of surreal black and white depictions of a woman's face in widely differing variations.
