Bucher Bründler
Daniel Buchner (*1967) and Andreas Bründler (*1967) founded their architectural firm in Basel in 1997. Their buildings are characterised by their dialogue with the location. The building reacts to its context and expands it by productively extrapolating on existing structures. Their architecture thus avoids self-referential formalism by enabling each project to develop its own identity. The cohesion of their work lies in their method. Their building approach includes conceptual work on the room programme, a strong articulation of craftsmanship and a conscious implementation of materiality. Their search for honesty in materials often leads to the use of raw concrete, which appears archaic in its atmospheric density and intensity. For instance, their Garden Tower in Wabern near Bern, whose cantilevered ceilings form a peripheral balcony zone. An exterior metal mesh for climbing plants creates a vertical layer of vegetation.
