Plugged together
Do-it-yourself Building by Boano Prišmontas

The Barn, as the project is called with a clear reference to agricultural buildings, is based on small building components and simple, CNC-milled plug connectors. Buildings can be erected – and disassembled as well – with few workers. The prototype, which stands north of London in Hertfordshire, was set up in just three days and was move-in-ready after two further weeks of completion work. It serves as a private art gallery and retreat. Other functions are conceivable: workshop; dance studio; artist’s atelier; additional living space. Indeed, the design is as multifaceted as the possible uses. Various facade materials are possible, as are various dimensions and sizes. Best of all: the two architects take only around eight weeks from the day of ordering to the completed building.
