Barbara Buser on Circular Building
With her in situ office, Barbara Buser has devoted herself to circular building. In her projects, the Swiss architect seeks uncomplicated solutions for recycling used building components. In this interview, she talks about value chains, the complicated process of procuring materials and initiatives aimed at saving our environment.

Barbara Buser graduated in architecture from ETH Zurich in 1979 and then worked in Africa for 10 years. In 1996, she and Klara Kläusler founded the first-ever Bauteilbörse [building parts exchange] in Basel. With Eric Honegger she has initiated and realized numerous conversion projects. At the 2021 Venice Architecture Biennale, her practice in situ received the Global Gold Award from the Holcim Foundation for Sustainable Construction for the K.118 project in Winterthur.
The in situ office works with open-source technology and makes experiences accessible in the book Bauteile wiederverwenden. Ein Kompendium zum zirkulären Bauen.
