AFF Architekten
Founded in Weimar by brothers Martin and Sven Fröhlich, AFF Architekten has East German roots. Today, they run the practice together with Ulrike Dix, Monic Frahn, and Valentino Vitacca as a collective of architects, craftspeople, and researchers based in Berlin and Lausanne. AFF sees craftsmanship and the careful considera tion of building materials as central to sustainable architecture. Their projects – including schools, a protective hut on Fichtelberg mountain, the Saxon Mining Archive in Freiberg, and a listed experimental grain storage facility in Berlin – have been published internationally and recognised with architectural awards. Alongside their expertise in existing structures, AFF has realised numerous educational buildings and built an extensive archive of typological studies on school design.
