Tanzende Säulen: Concrete Choreography von Studierenden der ETH Zürich

Für das »Origen Festival« in Riom haben Studierende des »Master of Advanced Studies in Digital Fabrication and Architecture« an der ETH Zürich das erste Bühnenbild aus einem robotergestützten 3D-Betondruckverfahren erschaffen. Die szenische Installation »Concrete Choreography« besteht aus neun schalungsfrei hergestellten Betonsäulen, die mit einer Druckgeschwindigkeit von 180mm/s innerhalb von 2,5 Stunden in voller Höhe gefertigt wurden.

Mit dem an der ETH Zürich entwickelten 3D-Druckverfahren eruiert das Projekt neue Perspektiven computergestützter Entwurfstechniken und digitaler Fertigungen für zukünftige Betonarchitekturen. Der hybride Forschungsansatz verbindet Materialeffizienz mit dem ästhetischen Potenzial dieser Technologie - der robotergestützte 3D-Betondruck ermöglicht die vollautomatisierte Herstellung geometrisch komplexer Texturen, der gleichzeitig mit einem kalkuliert sparsameren Materialverbrauch einhergeht.

Die 2,7m hohen Hohlbetonsäulen der »Concrete Choreography« begleiten das Musiktheater in Riom nicht nur als Kulisse. Aus ihrer agilen Morphologie entsteht ein Ebenbild der Akteure, als würden die Betonhüllen jeden Moment aufbrechen und selbst aus der Reihe tanzen.
