Digital Reconstructions: 6 Ruined Castles Across the UK by NeoMam Studios
Although architectural reconstructions always feature a political element, in these 6 projects NeoMam Studios have focused on the more romantic side of things. On behalf of On Stride, the design team from NeoMam Studios have resuscitated the ruined castles of Dunluce, Dunstanburgh, Bothwell, Goodrich, Caerlaverock and Kidwelly.
In order to get exact depictions of each castle ruin, the studio cooperated with architect Jelena Popovic. After the first research phase, the team created 3D models based on archival photographs. The final phase consisted of digitally combining available architectural drawings with the 3D models to produce moving GIFs, so each step of the reconstruction can clearly be seen. The result comprises six animated reconstructions that give new life to faded glory in moving-picture format.
The United Kingdom is rightly known for its magnificent castle and fortress architecture.
The architects from NeoMam Studios stress that in contrast, despite their somewhat patchy sources and lost architectural details, ruins are no less impressive.
