Assembly Spaces
Places of public assembly are of great social importance for towns and cities. They generate a sense of identity and often form urban nodes, as can be seen in the ensemble by Bembé Dillinger in Wettstetten. In many instances, locations of this kind have to be multifunctional, as in the case of Florian Nagler’s Culture + Congress Forum in Altötting with its powerful roof. In designing venues for a wide range of events, architects frequently need to respond to the ambitious goals of their clients and the diverse wishes of future users, not to mention technical requirements, all of which have to be reflected in a meaningful form. The examples in this edition of DETAIL show the whole gamut of constraints and solutions.
