Concrete Construction
The mouldable quality of concrete, its potential for creating different forms and the expressive scope its surface offers make it a fascinating building material, as the projects in this issue of DETAIL show. These include David Chipperfield Architects’ office extension in Berlin, a New York gallery by Selldorf Architects, the Vorarlberg Museum by Cukrowicz Nachbaur and a minimal house by Ryue Nishizawa in
Tokyo. “La Biennale di Venezia 2014”, beginning on page 565, contains background information on the German contribution to this year’s architectural event and an interview with the two curators, Alex Lehnerer and Savvas Ciriacidis, who cite what was formerly the German chancellor’s bungalow in Bonn by Sep Ruf as an icon of post-war German architecture.
