Off-site manufacture of building components saves both time and costs. While this frequently led to industrialised uniformity before, it now allows development of a diversity of individual solutions. Indeed, hardly any alternatives to prefabrication exist, particularly for realisation of complex computer-generated designs.

The scope of prefabrication and material processing methods available is illustrated by the project examples presented, which include a sports training centre with a sophisticated concrete folded plate structure, a hotel with fully prefabricated room modules, an exhibition pavilion composed of load-bearing plastic shells or a concert hall with a façade made of amorphous wooden elements . The project documentations are supplemented by informative contributions written by individuals involved in the construction projects, and specialised articles present the current options available for prefabrication using wood and concrete.
